Answer: Hell, I have no clue, but tomorrow I won’t have to worry about that any longer. At 9am EST, I head over to the doctors office and this horrid thing off of me.

I have a long day of arm wrestling and handball ahead of me.

But, if you really need to know how to keep your cast smelling fresh, these are things I learned that don’t work:

Foot powder - Sure it works for about 6 hours, but it will stink later. And, it forms a paste inside

Something scented - Like a crack habit, you will have to up the dose to keep ahead of the smell.

Hair dryer to reduce moisture - Besides the fear of having 3rd degree burns inside of a cast, this produces little effect other than stinking up an entire room

Now, the only thing that does work: Take a towel, cover it in the purist alcohol you can find and rub it in the inside of your cast, and keep clear of open flames. The alcohol will kill everything in there, leaving it smelling, well, not fresh but bearable. If you have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t go this route.

So we ended getting a dog, named her Clementine. We found her on Petfinder. They claim she’s a stray, but she can sit and is house broken, so most likely she did have a family. She came from the Associated Humane Societies in Newark. I highly recommend going there, everyone is great and they really seem to care about the animals. Also, coincidentally, her new vet in Fanwood used to be a vet over in there.

When we got her she was very very frumpy. She her hair was all matted (I figure this is why they called her Maddie) and she smelled beyond horrible.

But, after a nice grooming she looks wonderful. Her eye is a little gimpy, but they gave her drops for it and it seems better everyday. The vet claims that in a week she should be all good.

So we found an adorable little dog that we absolutely love. We drove an hour to see her, and she’s wonderful (Twinkie, pictured left). But it ends up, that since we haven’t brought our cats to the vet in a year, that we our application is going to get denied.

They call up your animals’ vet, and make sure you have brought all your pets to a yearly “wellness check” and have them up on all their shots.

Note that we have 3 cats that have never seen the outside, ever. This rule, though I figure is well meant, works against the idea that these animals need homes. People don’t go to rescues to get a cheap pet, hell, they charge $200 for a mutt. People go when they care about saving an animal that would otherwise be dead.

The irony about this rule is that:

Any person off the street without any pets can get a pet easier than one with.

People that lie and say they have no pets are favored over honest people.

Rescues are harder to get than pure breeds from a puppy mill, yet they are less of a commodity. Meaning they’ll never get a home.

So these rules benefit the people who have never had a pet or are liars. Since we really want a dog, we lined up 3 appointments for our cats for Friday. Three appointments, three hours apart. This should be an adventure.

The question is, since we know we’re good pet owners, would it moral to lie and say we have no animals?

I love Linux, but sometimes when dealing with multiple Ethernet devices remotely, you get booted, and have no way to get back into the box.

Either you typed in the wrong route, shutdown the wrong device, or really, any thing that disconnects you, you’re now locked out. If you have a remote rebooter, well, you could use that but you’ll be welcomed with a forced fsck.

And of course you’re too poor to get a KVM over IP. (At least I am).

The simplest “hack” would be to have the machine automatically reboot if something goes wrong. So before playing with ifconfig or iptables, you can simply do something like this:

//Oh at command, how dare your big brother cron pick on you.
[root@jabba ~]at now + 20 minutes
at>reboot
job 3 at 2007-10-03 18:35

So now if you screw up, the machine automatically reboots in 20 minutes. In the rare occurrence where you don’t screw up, you can just delete the job.

at -d 3

Hope that helps at least someone.

Note: Also, if you want, you can also just restart the network instead of rebooting completely

For about 10 years now, I’ve used Ci-Host as shared host->dedicated host->Colo for all my sites. Though Ci-host’s reputation isn’t stellar, they’re dirt cheap. Cheap like I pay $300 for a 48U of colo space in Newark.

My friend over at MyBloop, who also uses Ci-host in Newark, was told their data center is closing October 31st. What is more bizarre is they haven’t told anyone about this. I called up the tech at the data center and he was acting as if he wasn’t allowed to confirm.

Oh well, no clue what I’ll do about hosting now.

Anyway, I was searching for some documents my father gave me, which for some bizarre reason included a ESL report card from 1985.

After less than 2 months, I’m switching jobs once again. I have nothing against Heavy, it’s just this opportunity was too good to let pass by. Quite the opposite about Heavy, the job was the absolutely best job I have ever had. The people are wonderful, energetic, and best of all, completely non-corporate (beer Fridays).

What tempted me about Etsy is that it’s a product I personally use and love. Etsy is also partially work at home, which is completely new to me. Also the company is fairly small and still new, so my work would make more of a total impact than it normally would at a larger company.

In preparation to working at home I’ve been fixing up my “office” to be more of an office.

Anyway, our wonderful photographer took an insane amount of photos, all within seconds of each other. When scrolling through the photos I realized how it looked like a flip book.

Well, seems that when put in video form, you’re able to relive our wedding in 2 or so minutes.

Enjoy!
